Privacy Policy

I value my privacy, so it naturally goes that I value yours too.

What type of data is collected?

Webmentions is an open W3 specification for socializing without the necessity of participating in social silos like Facebook, Twitter and so on. It does, however, still make it possible to participate in such silos while maintaining data ownership.

When you:

  • like, reply to, or repost something
    • on a social platform like Twitter or Mastodon (specifically the Fosstodon instance),
      • where I have in the tweet/toot a link to a page or article of mine,
    • or through your own IndieWeb enabled website,

I get some data about this interaction through a service called (if through Twitter or Mastodon), or through your own website (if it is IndieWeb enabled).

To be specific, I receive:

  • your name as specified on the account/your website,
  • your username on the service/your website,
  • a photo, if uploaded or made available,
  • a date and time of the interaction,
  • the content of the interaction.

If you would like to have it removed from any specific article or page, please email me along with a link to the article/page, and I'll do so on my end.

Guest Comments

When you submit a guest comment for any page or article on my site, I receive an email for moderating your comment.

The following data is collected/stored:

  • A system generated date-time when the comment was received
  • The name of the author
  • URL to author's blog or site, if provided
  • Email of the author
  • Comment text written by the author

Where is the data stored? How is it secured?

The comment data is published to my private GitHub repo.

My GitHub account is protected with a secure, randomly generated password as well as 2FA. Nobody else has read & write access to the repository except myself, and the CMS I use for publishing articles - Forestry CMS.

How can I remove my comment?

If your comment is not approved, it is immediately deleted from the repository. If your comment is approved, the comment data is stored on the repository.

If you'd like to get it removed, please drop me an email and I'll purge the data from the repository. The contact details are available further down the page.

I use Plausible Analytics, a privacy-friendly analytics service. It is a paid service and does not sell your data or take any interest in your data. This is a paid service, unlike more commonly used options like Google Analytics, and I pay for my subscription.

I have access to the following information:

  • number of visits on a page, by its permalink
  • referral information (which domain led you to any page on my domain)
  • a percentage based makeup of which countries I received visitors from
  • which links were clicked, but not the user journey

It does not:

  • collect personally identifiable information,
  • collect your IP address,
  • track your user journey on my website,
  • sell your information, or
  • store cookies on your browser

What will this information be used for and who will have access to it?

This information is used by me for evaluating which of my articles or pages receive more attention than others. I also use it to see where my site is being referred to on the web.

Only I have access to this data. It is protected by a lengthy, randomly generated password using a password manager. The password manager itself is protected by 2FA (Two-Factor Authentication).

How can I opt out?

Please block the subdomain goals.rus in your adblocker. You may find how to do this in your adblocker's documentation.
